Learn more about Ikon here. About the roleThe Head of School, Counselling is responsible for the academic leadership, operational management and delivery of courses within the School of Counselling, ensuring academic integrity, learning and teaching design and quality, student engagement, and the academic progression of students. The Head of School, Counselling is a member of the Teaching and Learning Committee and Course Advisory Committee. It is a teaching position, with an expected teaching load of 2 subjects per trimester. About youYou are passionate about education and creating a difference for students. You have excellent problem solving, change management and time management skills.You have the ability to manage practices and processes that facilitate and support high-quality teaching and student outcomes. Key ResponsibilitiesAcademic Delivery Manage the operations and delivery of courses, including associated aspects of the learning management system; Provide exemplary teaching and scholarship, and support the achievement of a high standard of teaching and scholarship across the academic team; Manage the quality of teaching within courses, providing academic staff with support and improvement strategies as required; Teaching, assessment and student consultation for 2 subjects per trimester; Lead the development of industry-relevant teaching and learning strategies that promote employability outcomes; Manage course review and continuous improvement processes to maintain the quality and currency of the courses and assessments; Manage the development and maintenance of learning resources (including blended and online delivery as relevant) and facilities for courses to ensure adequacy and appropriateness and currency. Academic Operations Ensure the proper conduct of all academic matters relating to staff, students, and academic results, adhering to organisational policies, procedures, and standards; Identify, select and recruit appropriately qualified permanent and casual academic staff for the delivery of units, including developing and maintaining a pool of suitable qualified casual lecturers and ensuring that target teaching loads (subjects per trimester) of permanent academic staff are achieved; Monitor student achievement, progression, retention, and completion, identifying risks and issues, and actively engaging support and improvement strategies as required; Support students identified as ‘at risk’, offering a supportive and student-centric approach to improvement; Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks, standards, and requirements across all aspects of courses and across the team; Facilitate cross-school and cross-campus meetings as required to ensure communication and feedback and development and maintenance of high-quality work processes; Provide data, analysis and feedback as required to the Dean and the management team to inform key business decisions; Actively engage with marketing and student recruitment staff to facilitate a clear understanding and communication of course requirements and outcomes; Support student recruitment and orientation activities including participation in open days and information sessions.  Course Development and Accreditation Sit on Course Advisory Committees in relation to the development of new courses; Contribute to the development of new courses including businesses cases, course outcomes, course structure, subject outlines, and accreditation submissions; Participate in planning and launching activities in relation to new courses.  Team Leadership Lead, direct and develop a high-performing academic team whose main priority is teaching and learning excellence and high student outcomes; Facilitate and support the professional development and scholarship of academic staff; Actively engage in developing a positive and supportive culture within the team and across the Institute; Provide mentoring and coaching support for team members to assist in their development; Provide clear direction to and manage the work performance of team members; Embrace and model the fundamental values of Ikon and ensure these characteristics are consistently applied across all aspects of the operation of the school.  Industry Engagement Engage with industry and professional bodies to maintain currency and relevance of courses and pedagogy; Manage relations with external associates, including benchmarking partners; Develop and maintain relationships with suitable external services that can host Ikon students on practicums and work placements; Promote Ikon through relevant professional networks and professional bodies. Other Responsibilities Play a leading role in the team, achieving the goals set in performance and development plans; Foster collegial relationships with all key stakeholders; Contribute to good practice in the sector and establishment of Ikon’s reputation as a quality provider; Actively contribute to the functions and responsibilities of the Teaching and Learning Committee and Course Advisory Committee, providing data as required and facilitating a high level of academic governance; Take all reasonable steps to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others who may be impacted by your actions or omissions; Observe all safety rules, policies and procedures in relation to work health, safety and wellbeing management; Other tasks as directed by the Dean. Education, Experience and SkillsPhD in a directly related discipline or field; Experience in management, and leading change and innovation within a higher education environment; Knowledge of contemporary developments in the discipline or field, informed by continuing scholarship and/or practice;Current or recent practicing experience within the discipline or field preferred; Skills in contemporary teaching, learning and assessment principles specific to the discipline or field; Experience in developing, leading, and managing high-performance teams; Experience in course development and accreditation and development of course curriculum; Demonstrated understanding of requirements associated with regulatory frameworks, especially the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021. Why work with Ikon?
